Accountability Post 2021 Week 10

Introduction to the Accountability Post 2021 Week 10

I’m coming up on a milestone, and I hope that it turns out to be a positive thing. I’m about to move beyond the failed approach that had been holding me back for years, which sounds like cause for rejoicing, doesn’t it? But I wonder if there had been at least a tiny silver lining.

Remember when I finally figured out that I didn’t know what I was doing with beats? Basically, I had come up with an unholy hybrid of an outline, beats, and a very rough draft. The draw back was that it lacked the direction I hadn’t realized I’d sought until I discovered Dan Wells’ series of videos. Using his Seven Point System, I was able to build what I hope is a dramatic and effective plot. Before, I’d basically been pantsing in an abbreviated form.

The thing is, up until now, I’ve been able to leverage some of those “beats-ish” snippets in the first drafts of the chapters I’ve been writing. I’m not sure how much that’s boosted my word count. I only have three more “beats-ish” snippets to convert, and then I’ll have exhausted my previous work. I’ll be relying totally on the plot outline, and all writing will be new. My hope is that being freed from having to integrate, or at least consider integrating, what I wrote before will actually speed things up. We’ll see next week!

Accountability Post 2021 Week 10 By the Numbers

Last week, I had reached 67,163 words. That had been through Sunday, February 28, 2021. Here’re the numbers for this week:

Accountability Post 2021 Week 10: Progress continues!

Saturday was a particularly good day. I wonder if those numbers will decrease as I get more into uncharted territory?

I’m not up to 74,877 words, which means last week I wrote 7,714 words. Last week was better by about a thousand words, but I’m still averaging over 2,500 words a sitting, which is about where I want to be.

If all goes well, tomorrow night I’ll exhaust the old material. I’m anxious to see what impact that’ll have on my output!

Feedback Welcome!
