Progress Report 2023 Week 15

I’m writing more of the steampunk-themed arc, and honestly, I’m a little worried about it. Why? Because it’s not just steampunk. Plus, it seems that every time I turn around, some kind of Family Real Life Event (RLFE) blows up — and not the routine kinds, either! That’s not even counting the Real Life Work Event (RLWE)! Also, I have a cover reveal for you. But before we get into any of that, let’s look at the numbers.

Progress Report 2023 Week 15 By the Numbers

I had to cast a new character, plus I lost most of one night to a RLWE.

I had to cast the role of chief mechanic Johan Bleaklight at the United Provinces Stockade Airport. He works on dirigibles. Derk Darkravine and his team of witch hunters had to work with Johan to gain access to an abandoned hangar at the eastern edge of the airport. Which was important because of reasons.

That’s part of the steampunk arc, in case it wasn’t clear from the names. That arc had me scared. I’ve enjoyed steampunk, but I’ve never tried to write it. But guess what? So far, it’s the easiest part of the novel. I’ve struggled to get all of the connections right for Atticus Porter’s arc. I’ve had a few problems with Matsushita Sachi’s chapters. But that steampunk arc is chugging right along.

It’s more than just a steampunk arc, though. It’s reveals the conceptual foundation for the next book, Unnatural Crypsis. That means if I screw this up, Evolution’s Hand Book 6 will fall flat on its face. So, no pressure!

I had to cut a couple of my writing sessions short because of a major event at work and another vehicle accident at home. Regarding the latter, no one was, again and thankfully, hurt. My family wasn’t even at fault! But dealing with it just takes time, and lots of it. It’ll extend into this week, too.

Evolution’s Hand Book 3: Primary Target Cover Reveal

We’re getting close to the time when I’ll publish Primary Target. I contracted again with Jesh Art Studio for this cover. If you’re ever in the market for a cover, I heartily endorse them!

I really hope you like the cover as much as I do, because I like it a lot! And here it is:

The cover is a perfect fit with the first two!

I like how there’re now two people on the front cover. That fits with what happened in this book. I’ll let you know when it’s available for purchase. It should be soon!

Progress Notes

Here’s my progress against last week’s goals:

  1. Finish Jadwiga Janczak’s Midpoint: Done!
  2. Finish Leon Weber’s Midpoint: Done!
  3. Finish Melchizedek Conrad’s Midpoint: Done!
  4. Start Leon Weber’s Pinch 2: Switched!

I switched Leon Weber’s Pinch 2 with Mariam Al Khatib’s Pinch 2. Her chapters fit better here, I think. Also, with both Janczak and Conrad, there’s going to be a chapter before their Pinch 2s. Both of those characters are really talking to me. It’s exciting to be part of!

Goals for the Week in Progress Report 2023 Week 15

For this week, I hope to accomplish these things:

  1. Finish Mariam Al Khatib’s Pinch 2
  2. Write Janczak’s chapter that spans her Midpoint and Pinch 2
  3. Write Conrad’s chapter that spans Midpoint and Pinch 2
  4. Write Matsushita Sachi’s Midpoint
